Classes

Most classes at Yogasmith are Ashtanga-based or Vinyasa Flow and focus on linking movement and breath throughout the practice. Classes vary by teacher as they each bring their own background and experience to the mat with a blend of styles such as Anusara, Yin, and Power. We encourage new and current members to be open to new experiences and to try any class that is at your ability level (see below). To learn more about the individual teachers and their teaching styles, check out their bios here. For the most up to date schedules and class changes please download the MindBody App or view online.

Class Descriptions

All Levels: This class is designed with the beginner in mind, but is also aimed at the seasoned student who wants to strengthen the foundation of their yoga practice. We believe it is helpful for the beginner to be practicing yoga with more experienced students and this class provides that opportunity. This class creates an environment that is safe, instructional, and inspiring.

Level 2: Builds upon the information learned in the All Levels classes and focuses on structural alignment principles for an experience of a stronger and more stable body. These classes also offer more options for advanced postures.

Level 3: Offers an opportunity to play with what has been developed in earlier levels and explore an athletic practice of breath/movement coordination with minimal cues about alignment. This practice builds awareness and strength at the true center of the body.

Gentle Yoga: Whether you are new to yoga, desire a slower pace from your more vigorous practice, are recovering from an injury, or want to experience stress relief,  gentle yoga is a safe and supportive practice for all levels of experience and ability. You will calm the mind and open the body through gentle warms ups of the joints and spine, traditional yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation. You are encouraged to go at your own pace, listen to and honor your body.  Come build strength and flexibility through a mindful practice that will support your whole being.

Power: Dive into your core strength and inner power with this Level 2 Baptist-Style Vinyasa Flow. Connecting movement and breath through a fast paced, creative and playful sequence designed to bring fire to your practice. This all levels yoga class will build strength, flexibility and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind. Modifications and amplifications are given throughout the practice so you can make the practice yours. Note: Studio may be heated up to 75-80 degrees for this class.

Restorative: This class is all about relaxation.  Restorative yoga is known for the calming and healing effects of practicing poses using props to create a supportive environment for total relaxation. Utilizing props makes it easier for the body to get into certain poses, and thus, surrender to the pose. The more your body is supported in the poses the deeper the sense of relaxation. Relaxation is a state in which there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet. Typically, Restorative poses are sustained for 5-10 minutes or for as long as you are comfortable.

Yin: Yin yoga is a slow-paced yet dynamic practice where postures are held longer to allow the joins and connective tissues of the body to open and release. If you are new to yoga this class is a great way to become familiar with postures and breath. If you are a more seasoned yogi this class allows you to deepen into your practice and into your body in a potentially new way.

Yin Flow: This class is a unique blend of Yin and Vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa yoga is a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses synchronizing breath with the continuous flow of postures. Yin yoga is a slow-paced yet dynamic practice where postures are held longer to allow the joins and connective tissues of the body to open and release. Combining these two practices creates a slow, dynamic flow that brings together warmth and cooling, energizing and grounding. If you are new to yoga this class is a great way to become familiar with postures and flow. If you are a more seasoned yogi this class allows you to deepen into your practice and into your body in a potentially new way.
